The southeastern part of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, which is home to Mount Fuji and the Fuji Five Lakes, was formerly known as Gunnai. This area is home to textile production with a history of over 1,000 years.

"Gunnai Stripes"
From the Edo period to the early Showa period, the silk fabrics woven there, used for the lining of haori coats and other garments, were called "Gunnai Stripes" or "Gunnai Weave" and were extremely popular as beautiful linings.

Linen is a growing fabric
Linen becomes supple with handling. Linen has the property of absorbing and releasing moisture quickly, and linen also has effective heat retention properties. Enjoy handling your linen fabric better. It will become more graceful, softer, and you will see the most flowing drape.

The area stretching out below the northern face of Mount Fuji has long been called "Gunnai." The snow and rain that falls on Mount Fuji becomes groundwater and takes decades to reach the town at the foot of the mountain. This water has made this area a silk weaving center with a history of 1,000 years. It was mainly used for the lining of haori coats. Later, with the advent of Western clothing, Gunnai stripes were no longer made. However, the techniques have been passed down and are still used in modern textile production.
I made kitchen cloths, half cloths, and handkerchiefs using linen, inspired by the old Gunma Yamanashi Inner Stripe collection archived by the prefecture.
Its true value is only revealed when you use it. Please use it as a long-lasting companion in your daily life.

Linen, a fabric that grows

Linen is a durable fabric, so with repeated washing and use, the fibers become softer and its texture changes completely from when it was new. This is the greatest appeal of using linen.
