Traditional Selvedge Linen
This tablecloth is made from high-quality European linen yarn and woven on a traditional shuttle loom to create authentic selvedge linen.
“Selvedge” refers to the finished edges along both sides of a woven fabric. In Japanese, these edges are known as mimi. The distinctive, slightly rustic appearance of selvedge linen is reminiscent of handwoven cloth and can only be reproduced using traditional shuttle looms.
Because the yarn is woven without applying excessive tension, the fabric retains the natural texture and character of linen. This traditional weaving method allows the unique qualities of the material itself to remain as intact as possible.
Linen Is a Fabric That Grows with Time
When traditional linen is first woven, it often has a crisp, firm feel. This is partly because starch used during the weaving process remains in the fabric, while the fibers themselves are still closely intertwined.
With years of use and washing, the starch gradually washes away and the fibers slowly loosen and soften. The fabric develops a gentle, supple texture and a character all its own.
Like leather and wood, linen is a natural material that changes and gains beauty with age. This gradual transformation is part of the charm of linen and a testament to its natural origins.
Selvedge Linen to Be Passed Down to Future Generations
Authentic antique linen that has survived to the present day is almost invariably made with selvedge edges.
The appeal of selvedge linen lies not only in the nostalgic beauty of its distinctive finished edges, but also in the purity of the fabric itself—the natural texture and character of the linen yarn remain beautifully intact.
Perhaps this is why selvedge linen has continued to serve and support people's everyday lives for generations.
We believe that this traditional selvedge linen is a valuable part of our shared textile heritage, and we hope to preserve this craft and pass it on to future generations.

This makes the cloth particularly useful for outdoor occasions such as days at the beach, camping trips, and picnics. Simply spread your favorite linen cloth over a table or on the ground, and it instantly adds a warm, beautiful atmosphere to the setting.
